Understanding Webflow Hosting SSL Certificates

August 2, 2024

To enable SSL certificates on your Webflow-hosted website, follow these steps to ensure a secure connection for your site visitors:

1. **Log into Your Webflow Account**
Visit the Webflow website and enter your login details. After logging in, you'll be directed to your project dashboard.

2. **Select Your Project**
Locate the project you want to secure, and click on it. This will open the project options.

3. **Navigate to Project Settings**
Find the settings gear icon, usually at the upper-left corner of the screen, and click it to access the settings menu for your project.

4. **Go to the Hosting Tab**
Within the settings menu, click on the Hosting tab to view all hosting-related settings.

5. **Enable SSL**
Find the option for SSL support in the Hosting tab. If it's not activated, you'll see a toggle switch or checkbox labeled Enable SSL. Click it to activate SSL, which will change your site from HTTP to HTTPS.

6. **Wait for SSL Certificate Activation**
SSL certificate activation might take a few minutes. Webflow automatically handles the generation and installation of the certificate. Watch the hosting tab's status indicator to confirm activation.

7. **Redirect HTTP Traffic to HTTPS**
Webflow generally redirects HTTP traffic to HTTPS by default once SSL is enabled. Check the redirect settings in the Hosting tab to ensure this feature is active.

8. **Verify SSL Configuration**
Open a new browser and enter your website's URL prefixed with https://. Look for a padlock symbol in the address bar, which signifies a secure connection. Test different pages on your site to ensure they all load using HTTPS.

9. **Update External Links and Resources**
Update external links, social media profiles, and marketing materials to reflect your HTTPS URL. This prevents mixed content warnings and maintains a secure user experience.

10. **Monitor Your Site**
Regularly check your site's performance and security settings. Use tools like Google Search Console to monitor any issues, such as indexing problems, that might arise from switching to HTTPS.

Following these guidelines will help you maintain a secure and trusted website, enhancing both user experience and search engine rankings.
