Setting Up SSL Certificates in Webflow Hosting

November 20, 2024

To set up SSL certificates for your Webflow-hosted website, begin by logging into your Webflow account. If you do not have an account, you'll need to create one and upload your project to Webflow. Once logged in, navigate to your project dashboard and select the project you want to secure with SSL, which will take you to the project settings page.

At the top of your project dashboard, click on the settings icon to access project settings. Look for the "Hosting" tab in the project settings menu. This tab is where you manage all hosting-related options, including domain settings and SSL certificates.

Before enabling SSL, ensure your custom domain is properly connected to your Webflow project. The domain status should indicate a successful connection to Webflow's servers. In the hosting settings section, locate the SSL option. Use the toggle switch next to "Enable SSL" to turn it on for your website. Webflow will automatically provision a free SSL certificate for your domain.

Once SSL is enabled, a short wait is necessary for the certificate to be provisioned. This process typically takes just a few minutes. Webflow will notify you when the SSL certificate is ready. Afterward, update your site's links to HTTPS to ensure all connections are secure. Update images, scripts, and external links to ensure they load over HTTPS.

Set up automatic redirects from HTTP to HTTPS in your Webflow hosting settings. This helps prevent users from accessing the unsecured version of your site. Finally, test your SSL by visiting your site with "https://" in the URL. Look for a padlock icon in the address bar to confirm the SSL is functioning correctly.

Monitor your website's performance and respond to any SSL-related notifications from Webflow promptly. Regular maintenance ensures a secure browsing experience for your users, enhancing site trustworthiness and supporting better SEO. Staying updated on Webflow's best practices is also crucial for maintaining your SSL certificate's effectiveness.
