How to Set Up Webflow CMS Collections

February 1, 2024

Step 1: Access the Webflow Designer
Log into your Webflow account and select the project you wish to set up CMS Collections for. Click the "Designer" button at the top to access the main design and content management interface.

Step 2: Open the Collections Panel
On the left side of the Designer interface, find the "Collections" icon, which looks like a stack of papers. Click it to open the Collections panel where you can manage your CMS Collections.

Step 3: Create a New Collection
In the Collections panel, click "New Collection". This opens a window where you name your collection, like "Blog Posts". Choose a name that indicates the collection's purpose.

Step 4: Add Fields to Your Collection
Define the fields for your collection by clicking "Add Field". Use default field types such as Plain Text, Rich Text, or Image to customize your collection. For a Blog Posts collection, add fields like Title, Description, Featured Image, Publish Date, Author, and Tags. Adjust settings like required fields or default values as needed.

Step 5: Save Your Collection
Review your fields to ensure they represent your content, then click "Create Collection" to save it. Your collection will appear in the Collections panel, ready for content input.

Step 6: Add Items to Your Collection
Click on the collection name to view it, then use the "Add New Item" button to input data for each field. After entering the information for each item, save it. Repeat for additional items as necessary.

Step 7: Create Collection Pages
For dynamic content display, click your collection name and then "Collection Page". Webflow generates a template page which you can customize with design elements and connect to dynamic fields like the Title.

Step 8: Display Collection Items on a Static Page
On a static page, like a blog index, add a Collection List element from the Add panel. Connect it to your CMS Collection to generate a list of items. Customize this list with additional elements, such as images or text.

Step 9: Publish Your Site
After setting up your CMS Collections and pages, click "Publish" at the top right to make your changes live, allowing visitors to view your dynamic content.

Step 10: Regularly Update Your Collection
Regularly add new items or edit existing ones to keep your content fresh and engaging. Webflow's CMS makes managing dynamic content straightforward and efficient.
