How to Set Up Product Categories in Webflow

November 27, 2024

To set up product categories in your Webflow project, start by logging in to your Webflow account and opening the desired project in the designer interface.

First, create a collection for your products. Access the 'Collections' tab in the left sidebar and click on 'New Collection.' Name the collection, such as 'Products,' and define fields like name, description, price, images, etc. Click 'Create Collection' to finalize it.

Next, add product categories as fields within this collection. Click 'Add Field' and select 'Option' as the field type. Name the field, perhaps 'Product Category,' and add multiple categories, like Clothing, Accessories, and Electronics. Save the changes to keep these options.

Once your product collection and category field are ready, proceed to add products and assign them categories. Click on your product collection, then 'New Product' to create a new item. Enter product details, including the category in the 'Product Category' field. Repeat for all products, ensuring each is assigned the relevant category.

Optionally, create a category page for each product category. Navigate to the 'Pages' panel and click 'New Page.' Select 'Collection Page' and choose your 'Products' collection to generate a category page template. Customize the layout to display products dynamically based on categories.

To facilitate navigation, set up a menu for categories. In the designer's main navigation section, add new links for each category. Link each navigation item to the corresponding category page or a filtered list showing relevant products.

Finally, publish your site by clicking the 'Publish' button in the upper right corner of Webflow designer. This updates your website with the new product categories, enabling visitors to navigate easily and find products they are interested in.

By following these steps, you organize your online store efficiently, enhance the shopping experience for your visitors, and keep your product offerings accessible and updated.
