How to Set Up Google Search Console in Webflow

January 19, 2024

Step 1: Create a Google Search Console Account

To get started, make sure you have a Google account. If needed, create a new Google account. Visit the Google Search Console website and click on "Start now." Sign in using your Google account credentials.

Step 2: Add Your Webflow Site to Google Search Console

Once logged in, click on "Add Property." You can choose between "Domain" or "URL prefix." For most Webflow sites, "URL prefix" is suitable. Enter your full website URL, such as www.yourwebsite.com, and click "Continue."

Step 3: Verify Site Ownership

You need to verify ownership of the site. Webflow simplifies this process:

1. On the verification page, select the "HTML tag" option.
2. Copy the entire meta tag that starts with <meta name="google-site-verification".

Step 4: Add the Verification Tag in Webflow

Log into your Webflow dashboard and choose your website project. Go to "Project Settings" and click on the "SEO" tab. Locate the “Head Code” section and paste the meta verification tag you copied earlier. Publish your Webflow site by clicking the "Publish" button in the top right corner of your dashboard.

Step 5: Finish Verification in Google Search Console

Return to the Google Search Console verification page and click "Verify." If successful, you will see a confirmation message.

Step 6: Submit Your Sitemap

Submit your sitemap to help Google index your site:

1. In Google Search Console, go to the "Sitemaps" section.
2. In Webflow, find your sitemap URL, usually yourwebsite.com/sitemap.xml.
3. Copy the sitemap URL and paste it into the "Add a new sitemap" field in Google Search Console.
4. Click "Submit."

Step 7: Monitor Your Site's Performance

Access valuable data about your website via Google Search Console:

1. Explore sections like "Performance," "Coverage," and "Experience."
2. The "Performance" section reveals data on impressions, clicks, and average position.
3. Use the "Coverage" report to spot any indexing issues.

Use these steps to set up Google Search Console and gain insights into your Webflow site's search performance. Regularly check your data to enhance visibility and reach your audience more effectively.
