How to Create Sections and Containers in Webflow

October 2, 2024

To create a structured and visually appealing website in Webflow, follow these steps to add sections and containers.

Start by logging into your Webflow account and open your project. If you don’t have a project yet, create one by choosing a template or starting from scratch.

Add a Section:
- Open the Add panel on the left (represented by a "+" icon).
- Drag the Section element into the canvas where you want it placed. This full-width element helps to divide your page into distinct areas.

Customize the Section:
- Select the section by clicking on it.
- In the right-hand panel under the Style tab, modify properties like background color, padding, and margins. Set a section height if it helps organize your content better.

Add a Container:
- With the section selected, go back to the Add panel.
- Drag the Container element into your section. This centers your content within the section, maintaining alignment on large screens.
- By default, the container has a set maximum width to ensure content readability.

Insert Content into the Container:
- Start adding elements such as text, images, or buttons by returning to the Add panel. You can drag in elements like a Heading or Paragraph.
- Use the right-hand panel to style these elements, adjusting fonts, colors, sizes, and alignment as needed.

Add More Sections and Containers:
- Continue adding sections and containers to build out your webpage, repeating the steps above. Adjust their properties to match your design theme.

Preview Your Design:
- Click on the Preview button at the top left of the editor to see how your sections and containers look.
- Ensure everything is organized and visually appealing.

Responsive Design Considerations:
- While previewing, check your design on different screen sizes by selecting the device icons at the top.
- Tweak padding, margins, and other properties to maintain a user-friendly design across devices.

Publish Your Changes:
- Once satisfied with your layout and design, click the Publish button in the upper right corner.
- Choose to publish to the Webflow subdomain or a custom domain, and follow the prompts to make your site live.

Creating sections and containers effectively organizes your content and enhances user experience. By following these steps, you can maintain a polished appearance across various devices, and with practice, you’ll be able to add greater creativity and functionality to your website design.
