To connect a custom domain in Webflow, follow these clear and simple steps:
1. **Prepare Your Custom Domain**: Make sure you have registered a custom domain through a registrar like GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Google Domains. If you haven't purchased a domain yet, do so before proceeding.
2. **Log Into Your Webflow Account**: Access the Webflow website and log into your account. If you don’t have one, create an account and set up your project.
3. **Access Project Settings**: From your Dashboard, click on the project for which you want to connect the custom domain. This opens the project's details. In the left sidebar, click on Settings to access Project Settings.
4. **Go to Hosting Tab**: Once in Project Settings, select the Hosting tab at the top. Here you will manage domain settings and configure DNS records.
5. **Add Your Custom Domain**: In the Custom Domains section, click Add custom domain. Enter your domain name (e.g., www.yourdomain.com) and add it. If you wish to connect the root domain too, add it separately (e.g., yourdomain.com).
6. **Update DNS Settings with Your Domain Registrar**: Webflow will provide specific DNS records. Typically, you will need:
- **CNAME Record**: Point to proxy-ssl.webflow.com for the www version:
- Host/Name: www
- Value/Points to: proxy-ssl.webflow.com
- TTL: Default or 1 hour
- **A Records** for the root domain:
- Host/Name: @ (or leave blank)
- Value/Points to: 75.2.70.60 (one of Webflow's IPs)
- TTL: Default or 1 hour
Repeat the A record setup with any additional IPs provided by Webflow.
Access your domain registrar’s DNS settings to input these records.
7. **Publish Your Website**: Return to Webflow’s Hosting tab. In the custom domain section, click Publish to Selected Domains to deploy your website.
8. **Wait for DNS Propagation**: DNS updates can take up to 48 hours, though often complete faster. Use a DNS checker tool online to verify the configuration.
9. **Set Default Domain (Optional)**: If both www and root domains are connected, set one as the default. Click on the desired default domain in the Hosting tab and select Set as default.
10. **Check Your Site**: Once DNS changes have propagated, visit your domain in a browser to ensure your Webflow site is live.
Following these steps enables you to successfully connect a custom domain to your Webflow project, providing a professional touch to your website.
