How to Change DNS Settings for Webflow Domains

July 3, 2024

Step 1: Access Your Domain Registrar
Log in to the account where you purchased your domain. This could be a site like GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Google Domains. Navigate to where your domains are listed and select the domain you want to connect to Webflow.

Step 2: Locate DNS Management Settings
Look for the option labeled DNS Settings, DNS Management, or Name Servers; the name may vary by registrar. Click on this to open the DNS settings for your domain.

Step 3: Add or Update DNS Records
Webflow uses A records and CNAME records for connecting domains.

Adding A Records:
1. Find the section to add new DNS records.
2. Create two A records:
- Set the hostname to @ and the value to 75.2.70.75 for the first record.
- Set the hostname to @ and the value to 99.83.190.102 for the second record.
3. Save your changes.

Adding a CNAME Record:
1. Look for the section to add a CNAME record.
2. Set the hostname to www and the value to proxy-ssl.webflow.com.
3. Save your changes.

Step 4: Set Up Domain in Webflow
Log in to your Webflow account and open the project settings for the site you want to connect. Click on the Hosting tab. In the Custom Domain section, enter your domain (like www.yourdomain.com) and click Add. Webflow checks your DNS settings and confirms if they are correct.

Step 5: Wait for DNS Propagation
After making these changes, DNS updates might take some time to spread across the internet, typically from a few minutes to 48 hours. Most updates show within a few hours. Check if your domain is live by entering it in a web browser. If your Webflow site appears, the setup is successful.

Step 6: Set Default Domain
If you've added both the www and non-www versions of your domain, choose one as your default in the Webflow Hosting tab. This ensures all traffic directs to your preferred version.

Following these steps connects your custom domain to your Webflow site effectively. If any issues arise, contact your domain registrar's support for help.
