To add featured blog posts to your Webflow homepage, you’ll need to follow a series of steps that will make your site more engaging for visitors. Here’s a straightforward guide to walk you through the process.
Step 1: Access Your Webflow Project
Start by logging into your Webflow account and opening the project you want to work on. This will lead you to the Designer view where you can begin making changes.
Step 2: Create a New Collection for Blog Posts
If you haven’t already set up a collection for blog posts, here’s how you do it:
- Click on the Collections tab in the left sidebar.
- Select the “Create New Collection” button.
- Name the collection (e.g., Blog Posts) and add fields like Title, Slug, Summary, and Image for thumbnails.
- Save your new collection by clicking the “Create Collection” button.
Step 3: Add Blog Posts to the Collection
With your collection set up, start adding blog posts:
- Click on your Blog Posts Collection in the list.
- Use the "New Blog Post" button to add a post.
- Fill out the fields such as Title, Summary, and upload a featured image.
- Save the post once you’ve entered all information.
Step 4: Design the Featured Section on the Homepage
Move on to display these posts on your homepage:
- Go to the Pages panel where you’ll find your homepage.
- Drag a Section from the Add panel to where you want the featured section.
Step 5: Set Up a Collection List
Next, add a Collection List to show your blog posts:
- With the section selected, find and drag the “Collection List” from the Add panel into it.
- A dialog will appear for selecting a source Collection. Choose Blog Posts.
Step 6: Design the Collection Items
Now, configure how each blog post appears:
- Click on the Collection List and access the placeholder item within.
- Add elements like Text Blocks for Titles and Summaries, and Image elements for the featured images.
- Bind these elements to your Blog Posts Collection fields.
Step 7: Style Your Featured Section
Make your section visually appealing:
- Use the Style panel to modify font sizes, colors, and spacing.
- Consider your layout options like a grid or slider, and add hover effects or animations.
Step 8: Filter the Collection List (Optional)
To feature specific posts, apply filters:
- Select the Collection List.
- Use the settings panel to implement filters, like post date or category.
Step 9: Preview and Test
Before going live, preview your work:
- Click on the Preview button.
- Check the appearance and functionality of the featured section.
- Return to design mode for any needed tweaks.
Step 10: Publish Your Changes
Once everything is set, publish your updates:
- Use the Publish button to make your featured blog posts live on the homepage.
Step 11: Regularly Update Featured Posts
Keep your featured section fresh by regularly updating it with new or different blog posts to maintain engagement.
