Access your Webflow project by logging into your account and selecting the project where you want to customize the CMS item slugs.
Navigate to the CMS Collections by locating the tab on the left-hand panel, which looks like a database icon. Click on it to view all your collections. A collection groups together similar items, such as blog posts, products, or portfolios.
Select the collection you wish to customize. For example, if you are changing the URL slugs for blog posts, click on the "Blog" collection to access it.
Inside the collection, you will see a list of existing items or entries. Look for the field labeled "Slug," which may contain auto-generated slugs based on the titles of your entries. This is where you'll input your custom slug.
For each CMS item, click on the entry you want to edit. A new window or panel will open where you can edit the item's details. Locate the Slug field, and enter a descriptive and concise custom slug using hyphens to separate words. For instance, for a blog post titled "How to Create Custom Slugs in Webflow," you might use "create-custom-slugs-webflow."
After entering your custom slug, save your changes by clicking the save button, typically located at the top right of the panel.
If there are multiple items within the collection, repeat the process for each entry you want to customize. Ensure each slug is unique and meaningful to enhance their SEO potential.
Preview the slugs by checking how they appear on the published site or in Webflow's preview mode. Ensure the slugs function correctly and lead to the appropriate content.
Test the URLs by manually entering the custom URLs in a browser. For example, if your website is www.example.com and you set a slug of "create-custom-slugs-webflow," navigate to www.example.com/create-custom-slugs-webflow to confirm it directs to the correct page.
By following these steps, you've successfully added custom slugs to your CMS items in Webflow, enhancing your site's SEO and user experience.
